More about J.D. Drew

  • Drew struggled in his first season in Boston, batting just .222 on 01 June and finishing with just a .270 average, 11 home runs, and 64 RBI, but finished strong by posting September totals of a .342 average, four home runs, 18 RBI, and a .618 slugging percentage.
  • Drew was one of four Red Sox players - the others being Manny Ramirez, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek - to hit four consecutive home runs in a win over the New York Yankees in April 2007. Ironically, the previous September, Drew was one of four Los Angeles Dodger players to achieve the same feat.
  • In Game Six of the 2007 American League Championship Series versus Cleveland, Drew hit a two-out grand slam home run to straight-away center field at Fenway Park to give Boston an early 4-0 lead as Boston cruised to an eventual 12-2 win. That home run was voted as the top moment in the 2007 postseason in MLB.com's annual The Year in Baseball awards, as voted on by the fans.
  • On 22 May 2008, Drew and teammate Mike Lowell each hit a grand slam in an eventual 11-8 win over Kansas City at Fenway Park, the first time Boston had two in one game since former third baseman Bill Mueller hit one from each side of the plate in 2003. Red Sox teammates had hit two in one game since 1995 and it had not happened at home since 1984.

Memorable Moments for J.D. Drew

  • 15 July 2008 - Representing Boston, outfielder J.D. Drew hits a two-run home run and wins MVP honors as the American League, managed by Red Sox skipper Terry Francona, bests the National League 4-3 in 15 innings at Yankee Stadium.
  • 3 October 2008 - With a 7-5 win over the Angels in Game Two of the ALDS, Boston's playoff winning streak against the Los Angeles franchise extends to 11 games, dating back to Gave Five of the 1986 ALCS. J.D. Drew's two-run home run in the top of the ninth is the difference after Boston fails to hold an early 5-1 lead.
  • 16 October 2008 - Down 7-0 with two outs in the seventh, Boston stages the largest comeback in a American League playoff game, winning 8-7 over Tampa Bay in Game Five of the ALCS thanks in part to home runs from David Ortiz and J.D. Drew. The game ends when Drew's ground-rule double scores Kevin Youkilis from second base with two outs in the ninth.
