- Pedrioa started the season batting just .172 through 01 May but hit .415 in May and finished the season with a .317 average, setting a major league rookie second baseman record, while hitting eight home runs and driving home 50 runs while crossing the plate 86 times. His efforts earned him American League Rookie of the Year honors, the first Red Sox player to earn that honor since Nomar Garciaparra was the unanimous selection in 1997.
- In Game One of the World Series, Pedroia led off the bottom of the first with a home run on the second pitch he saw, only the second player in Major League history to homer starting off a series.

- 18 November 2008 - One year after winning Rookie of the Year honors, Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia wins the American League Most Valuable Player award, the third ball player to ever accomplish the feat. The Gold Glover easily outdistances Joe Mauer and teammate Kevin Youkilis in the voting.
