- Pedrioa started the season batting just .172 through 01 May but hit .415 in May and finished the season with a .317 average, setting a major league rookie second baseman record, while hitting eight home runs and driving home 50 runs while crossing the plate 86 times. His efforts earned him American League Rookie of the Year honors, the first Red Sox player to earn that honor since Nomar Garciaparra was the unanimous selection in 1997.
