More about Coco Crisp

  • Crisp's real first name is Covelli; he supposedly got the name Coco from his grandmother, who called him "Co" as a child. His siblings then nicknamed him Coco after the breakfast cereal, Cocoa Krispies.
  • After a disappointing first season, due mainly to injury, Crisp rebounded in 2007, making 137 starts and batting .268 with 28 stolen bases, second to teammate Julio Lugo. He also enjoyed a remarkable season in center field, making just one error in 416 total chances with many catches worthy of the highlight reel.
