Notable Moments from 2007
19 January 2007 - After nearly 14 years with the organization after being drafted in the first round of the 1993 amateur draft, free agent outfielder Trot Nixon signs a one-year deal with Cleveland.
17 April 2007 - Despite a 2-1 loss, Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka strikes out 10 Blue Jays batters to become only the second pitcher in major league history to record double-digit strikeout totals in his first three starts, the other being Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.
22 April 2007 - Manny Ramirez, J. D. Drew, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek hit four consecutive home runs in the third inning, the first time in Red Sox history this feat has occurred. All four home runs were off of 10 pitches from Yankees rookie Chase Wright, making just his second major league start. Boston eventually wins 7-6.
8 May 2007 - Josh Beckett wins his seventh game in as many starts, putting him second behind three other Boston pitchers for the most starts to begin a season without a loss or a no-decision.
13 May 2007 - Dubbed the "Mother's Day Miracle" by the Boston media, the Red Sox rally from a one-out, 5-0 deficit and win 6-5 over the Orioles at Fenway Park. Boston scores four runs to get within one, then score the final two on a two-out single by shortstop Julio Lugo combined with an fielding error by pitcher Chris Ray as he covers first.
23 July 2007 - Nearly one year after being diagnosed with lymphoma, Jon Lester returns to the mound in Cleveland and goes six full innings to earn the win in his first start since the previous August. After the season, in recognition of his recovery, the southpaw is honored with the 2007 Tony Conigliaro Award.
1 September 2007 - Rookie Clay Buchholz, in just his second major league start, throws a no-hitter at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles as the Red Sox win 10-0. He becomes the third pitcher in MLB history to throw a no-no in either his first or second career start.
28 September 2007 - With Boston winning 5-2 over Minnesota at Fenway Park and New York losing 10-9 in Baltimore, the Red Sox capture the American League East Division title for the first time since 1995. The Yankees had won the past nine titles and 10 of 11 since then.
21 October 2007 - Boston completes a comeback from a 3-1 American League Champion Series deficit with an 11-2 win over Cleveland, winning the AL pennant in seven games for the second time in four years. Pitcher Josh Beckett, who wins Games One and Five, is named series MVP.
28 October 2007 - With a 4-3 win on the road in Colorado, the Red Sox complete a four-game sweep of the Rockies and capture the club's second World Series title in four years. Third baseman Mike Lowell is named series MVP.
12 November 2007 - Second baseman Dustin Pedroia, after working through a shaky start to the season, wins American League Rookie of the Year honors. After batting only .172 through 01 May, Pedroia bats .335 the rest of the season to finish at .317, a new rookie record for a second baseman, with eight home runs and 50 RBI.
3 December 2007 - Former manager Dick Williams is elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Williams, who led the "Impossible Dream" Red Sox team of 1967 to the World Series, is one of only two skippers to lead three different clubs to the Fall Classic, the others being the 1972 and 1973 Athletics and the 1984 Padres.
