24 January 1990 - Tony Conigliaro dies of pneumonia and kidney failure at the age of 45. The former Red Sox fan favorite and Revere, MA native hit 32 home runs in 1965 at the age of 20 to become the youngest player in American League history to win the home run crown.

26 January 1990 - Boston hires Elaine Weddington as an assistant general manager, making her the highest-ranking African-American female executive in Major League Baseball.

10 April 1990 - Wade Boggs is intentionally walked three times by Detroit at Fenway Park, tying the record for most in a nine-inning game.

17 July 1990 - Despite being the only team ever to hit into two triple plays in one game, Boston manages a 1-0 win over Minnesota at Fenway Park on Tim Naerhing's fifth-inning single.

18 July 1990 - Boston (6) and Minnesota (4) combine to hit into ten double plays, a major league record, as the Red Sox prevail 6-4 against the Twins at Fenway Park.

29 July 1990 - The Red Sox collect 12 doubles in one game, an American League record, in a 13-3 win over the Tigers in Detroit.

27 August 1990 - Ellis Burks becomes the first Red Sox player since former second baseman Bill Regan in 1928 to hit two home runs in one inning as an eight-run fourth helps Boston rock Cleveland, 12-4. Burks also finishes with five RBI.

31 August 1990 - Boston trades future All-Star Jeff Bagwell to Houston for reliever Larry Anderson as the Red Sox enter the stretch run for the playoffs.

1 September 1990 - Thanks in part to Mike Greenwell's inside-the-park grand slam, Boston posts a 15-1 win over New York at Fenway Park, their ninth win in a row.

3 October 1990 - Boston wins the pennant on the last day of the season with a 3-1 win over Chicago at Fenway Park, with Tom Brunansky diving out of the network cameras' view to make the catch in the right field corner for the final out.

10 October 1990 - Oakland sweeps Boston out of the ALCS for the second time in three seasons, capping the series with a 3-1 win highlighted by Roger Clemens's ejection from the game for arguing balls and strikes.
