1 February 1984 - Lou Gorman is hired as the general manager of the Red Sox, replacing Haywood Sullivan.
1 May 1984 - Second baseman Jerry Remy is called for a balk for being in foul territory preparing to back up an appeal to first base that never arrives.
13 May 1984 - Less than two weeks after the unusual balk call against him, Jerry Remy finds himself involved in another strange play when a fair ball chopper down the first base line that he hit strikes his helmet while he is in fair territory, an automatic out.
