26 March 1977 - Rico Petrocelli is released by the Red Sox after thirteen seasons with the club.
4 July 1977 - Boston sets a team record for most home runs hit in a single game with eight against the expansion Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.
19 September 1977 - Rookie Ted Cox collects two hits in his first two at-bats, one day after he debuted by going 4-for-4 in four at-bats. He is the only player in major league history to collect six hits in his first six plate appearances and the only player in franchise history to go 4-for-4 in his debut.
24 October 1977 - Dick O'Connell, despite bringing baseball back to Boston with three 90-plus win seasons and 11 winning seasons in 12 years at the helm, is fired as general manager.
