- 25 November 2002 - Having grown up in the shadows of Fenway Park in Brookline, MA, twenty-eight-year-old Theo Epstein becomes the youngest general manager in Major League Baseball history when the Red Sox select him to replace interim GM Mike Port.
- 31 October 2005 - General manager Theo Epstein announces his resignation after he and ownership fail to agree to a new contract; however, Epstein would return to his role three months and replace Ben Cherington and Jed Hoyer, who had been named as co-general managers in December.
- 19 January 2006 - Former general manager Theo Epstein returns to the Red Sox after an 80-day hiatus. The architect of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox, who left the team on Halloween Day, returns to eventually resume duties as GM.
