Memorable Moments for Rick Porcello

  • 16 November 2016 - Rick Porcello edges out Justin Verlander for the 2016 American League Cy Young Award. Despite 14 first place votes for the latter pitcher, Porcello earns eight first place votes and 18 second place votes to finish just ahead of Verlander in the final tally (137 to 132). It is the closest race in voting history, and becomes more controversial after it's revealed that two voters left Verlander off their respective ballots.
  • 2 July 2018 - Rick Porcello helps his own cause with a three-run double off former Detroit teammate Max Scherzer in the top of the second inning as the Red Sox edge the Nationals 4-3 at Nationals Park. Mookie Betts rounds out the final run tally for Boston with a seventh inning home run.
  • 3 August 2018 - Rick Porcello pitches a complete game one-hitter on 86 pitches and allows just two baserunners in a 4-1 Red Sox win over the Yankees. The 2016 Cy Young Award winner strikes out nine and retires the last 21 batters he faces. The only blemishes are a hit batter to lead off the game and a Miguel Andujar solo home run to lead off the fourth.
  • 14 August 2018 - Rick Porcello doubles in the third inning of a game against the Phillies in Philadelphia, becoming one of only six American League pitchers since the DH rule went into effect in 1973 to collect at least two extra-base hits in one season. Porcello also doubled on 02 July versus the Nationals in Washington. The Red Sox edge the Phillies 2-1.
