- 22 October 2017 - The Red Sox announce that they have hired bench coach and former player Alex Cora as the 47th manager in franchise history. Cora, however, will not assume his duties as the new manager until after the World Series, in which his current team, the Houston Astros, win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. He is officially introduced at a press conference on 6 November.
