Fisk Pole
No one will ever forget when, in the early morning hours of 22 October 1975, Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk took a 1-0 fastball from Cincinnati Reds reliever Pat Darcy and banged it off the top of the left field foul pole at Fenway Park, high above the fabled left field wall. That shot ended a 12-inning affair and gave Boston a hard-fought, 7-6 victory in Game Six of the 1975 World Series. Unfortunately, Boston would suffer defeat in the seventh and deciding game of the series, but that defining moment of one of the greatest Fall Classics is forever etched in sports history. In June of 2005, prior to Boston's first-ever interleague series against the Reds at Fenway and exactly 30 seasons later, the Red Sox dedicated the infamous field mark as the "Fisk Pole" in honor of the Hall-of-Fame catcher, who played with the organization from 1969 through the 1980 season, in a pre-game ceremony.
